Today you will enjoy a guided tour to The Citadel of Saladin & the mosque of Mohamed Ali the founder of the last royal family in Egypt.

Sultan Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi was the first to order the construction of a fortress over the Muqattam Hills in (572 AH/ 1176 AD), but it was not completed during his lifetime.

This was achieved during the reign of Sultan al-Kamel ibn al-Adel (604 AH/1207 AD) who decided to reside in it, making it the official residence of the rulers of Egypt. In the mid-nineteenth century, Khedive Ismail moved the official residence to Abdeen Palace in downtown Cairo.

The Citadel witnessed some of the most significant events in Egyptian history from the time it was built to the end of the Muhammad Ali Dynasty.

Then we will visit The Mosque and Madrasa of Sultan Hasan & the Mosque of Al-Rifa’i.

The Mosque and Madrasa of Sultan Hasan is one of the largest and architecturally exquisite mosques in all of Egypt. It was commissioned by the Mamluk sultan Hasan ibn al-Nasir Muhammad ibn Qalawun.

Al-Rifa’i mosque was built in the nineteenth century to Equivalent its fourteenth-century neighbour, the mosque of al-Sultan Ḥassan.  While a section of the mosque is dedicated to prayers, another is reserved as a mausoleum for the members of the family of Muhammad Ali Pasha the founder of the last royal Family in Egypt. Khedive Ismail and his mother Hoshiyar Kadin, as well as Kings Fuad I and Farouk, the last two rulers of the Muhammad Ali Dynasty, are buried here. Also the mosque contains the burial chamber of Muhammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran.

Today you will enjoy a guided tour to the ancient necropolis of Sakkara. Here, admire the Step Pyramid of Djozer, the world’s oldest stone structure, learning how it was constructed in around 2,630 BC for King Djozer.

While in this area, we visit a local carpet school and we are able to watch the fascinating skills of those who make rugs by hand.

Then we shall visit Memphis, was founded in 3200 BC by King Narmer. It was the capital of Egypt in the era of the Old Kingdom (dynasties 3-6).

The site is over 5000 years old so little of the actual city remains, but it still boasts several impressive artifacts and an array of statues that have been uncovered in the past century.

Among the most important monuments in the open museum of Meet Raheena – ruins left from ancient Memphis – are the statue of Ramses II at the entrance and the huge statue of Ramses II which lies on the ground.
